Veiled Horizons

Veiled Horizons, offers a glimpse into the life of a girl closed off from the world in the name of religion. Her journey to break free of her overbearing family is interwoven with the story of a young man trying to protect those he loves at the cost of his own moral compass. Together, they must define their respective lines in the sand, and make choices that may land them on unexpected sides of it.

Homeschooled Rachel will graduate high school with students she’s never met, then walk straight into marriage with a fire-and-brimstone-preaching Evangelist—a man she barely knows. Rachel has never been asked for her opinion. Any sign of rebellion is met with “the paddle.”  Then Rachel meets Nick. He’s not keen on her church or her beliefs, but sensing the pain he buries deep within, Rachel remains intent on giving him her prayers. And when Rachel is attacked, Nick tells her she’s not at fault. 

Nick has always tried to do the right thing: serve his country, protect his brother, provide for widowed mom. But when his brother is lying in the hospital unconscious after a motocross accident, Nick’s world is turned upside down. Only the calm support of Rachel seems to soothe his caustic soul. And when Rachel confides in him about her attack and disappears, Nick knows he has to find and rescue her. But just how far is Nick willing to go?

I’m looking for people who’ve escaped from cults. Who would like to become beta readers as subject matter experts. I intend to write an honest perspective of someone who’s dealt with shunning, abuse, and mind control.

Veiled Horizons is in its final draft. My goal is to have this published in 2019.
